India has >6 times the COVID-19 deaths officially reported, a new analysis finds, bolstering earlier reports of undercounting. And undercounting deaths appears common elsewhere, meaning the global toll likely is far higher than 5.45 million lives lost. science.org/content/article/…

Well-written, solid journalism, Jon. The last line has a hell of a punch. Good job.

I am wondering the amount of Covid deaths for 2 years. There are Indian states (e.g., Kerala, Odisha) were people are counted rarely by the official members of the councils (e.g., once every 3 y. someone goes to the villages to know how many died and were born), what about now?

You can't imagine how good we are in fudging data and lying. It's 30 times not 6 as per crematorium data coming from across India.

why are you so much interested in deaths of people in a poor country like India, have you ever cared to explain 8.5 lakh deaths in USA? You never showed pictures of mass graves in USA or Canada. India has managed COVID much better than most countries.
Friends from Mumbai had been stating 4-5mm from the previous surge for quite some time
